Clinical

I completed residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Duke University Hospital and now work as a hospitalist at the University of North Carolina.

Research interests

Mammalian genome evolution

The focus of my thesis was the evolution of the genome of the house mouse (Mus musculus). In particular I focused on the role of large duplications: these loci are highly variable beween species and contribute disproportionately to genetic variation within populations. I am interested in the population-genetic forces — recombination, mutation, selection and drift — that create and maintain this diversity.

I was supervised by Fernando Pardo-Manuel de Villena, whose lab anchors the UNC Systems Genetics research group.

Resources for mouse genetics

I also helped generate data and bioinformatics resources for two mouse reference populations for analysis of quantiative traits: the Collaborative Cross and Diversity Outbred stock.

I maintain a list of public whole-genome sequence datasets from wild mice to facilitate data-sharing and reuse by the research community.

Pathogen genomics

From 2018-2019 I was a visitor in the UNC Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Ecology Lab (IDEEL), studying population structure and selection in Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax. I was supervised by Jonathan Juliano.
